When I first heard about the new technology out there for near-sighted people, I got really excited about it. I was so thrilled at the idea of being able to get eye surgery that would permanently correct my near-sightedness. I knew it would be expensive when it initially came out, so I decided to wait some years until the prices for it bottomed out and came down more to my price range. Of course it would happen; I was sure of it. All new technologies are really expensive at the beginning, but as time goes on the prices go down. On top of that, I had insurance that would cover the cost of this surgery except for a co-pay. I scheduled an appointment to go and see an eye doctor for a consultation. He took me through my medical history asked me about any surgical experiences. When I discussed my last surgery with him of course he had to break the bad news to me. He told me he strongly advised me against having this laser surgery because I scar badly, and if I suffered scarring in my eyes I could be blinded permanently. I guess I’ll have to wait for the next big technology to come out.

We are going to Sedona, Arizona on a trip to a spa resort.  There are four of us girls going.  We have not been on vacation together in a couple of years.  We don’t want this not going away to become a habit, so we are nipping it in the bud.  We think we will just like to go someplace and just relax for a few days.  This spa has all kinds of neat features.  We are going to try every kind of treatment they have.  We hear the menu is fabulous also.  It’s going to be great to be pampered.  We are all going to have all the different mud baths, all the hair treatments, messages, and whatever else we can think of, because we work hard and really need to relax and pamper ourselves.  Besides, after a few days of relaxing, we are going to be ready for a road trip to Las Vegas!  We are sure to have fun along the way.  Shopping is of course at the top of our list of things to do.  We have never been on a road trip before of this magnitude and hope that we have the time of our lives.  We may even stop by the Grand Canyon.

I was hanging out at my friend Alex’s house the other day, and we were scared to death by a GE Home Security worker.  We were sitting in his den watching television, and all of a sudden we saw someone peering in the window right behind us.  Alex literally jumped out of his seat, because he was so startled.  We went to the back door to see what the man wanted.  He said that he had been scheduled for an appointment at their house to update their security system, and he had been trying to ring the doorbell and knocked for several minutes.  He said he could see lights on in the house, so he walked around to the back to see if he could get our attention.  We let him in, and Alex told him that he was lucky that his dog had not been in the backyard, because he does not take kindly to strangers.  The guy said that he had always heard stories about people being attacked by dogs, but that he had never been.  He worked in and out of the house for an hour while we sat there and finished our movie.  Alex told him that he would allow him to go out the front door, unless he was more comfortable sneaking out the back.

This was way before there were kits for a walk in closet organizer.  My father measured out the entire closet and went to the old lumberyard and had the guy there cut the pieces to his specs.  Then we went to the hardware store and got the screws and fasteners and other things necessary to get the thing completed.  I was really young, but my father let me help, but I think I was more in the way than anything else.  I would be the "inside guy" is what he told me.  That meant holding the lumber while dad drilled a hole through it and then into the wall of the closet.  This seemed to take all day.  I guess when I think about it it really did.  We were at the lumberyard even before it opened.  My father had a list and we walked back into the yard.  I still remember the smell of the lumber. It had rained the night before, and some of it was soaked.  You could smell the pine and the oak.  I guess my father got a kick out of my trying to help.  He told my mother afterwards that I had been the main reason the project was completed. She smiled. Years later I asked him about it.  He really did need my help that day.  I feel good about it even now.
